Trustus Youth Theatre

Trustus Youth Theatre Trustus Theatre is introducing a brand new experience for the children of Columbia, the Trustus Youth Theatre. The company will open its doors for the first time this holiday season with an adaptation of the classic A Christmas Carol; brought to you in the brand New Trustus Studio Theatre on Dec. 7th at 4 and 7 p.m.

2007 has been a vigorous year of change for Trustus, with the addition of the New Trustus Studio Theatre, rehearsal space and new offices. And in the spirit of change there was a need to reach out to a greater portion of Columbia’s population, specifically the children. Trustus is known for their primarily adult-only content shows but the desire to entertain does not stop there.

The New Trustus Studio Theatre is a new space for new opportunities and an ideal location for shows aimed at the youth in the area. A Christmas Carol was adapted by USC honors graduate and Chicago stand-up comedian George Pate. The show is directed by USC graduate and Trustus staff member Chad Henderson. Henderson has been teaching middle school children through the Trustus Afterschool Program, an experience that aided in his desire to reach out to the younger community.

The cast of the show includes a mix of Trustus company members, local theatre favorites and many students from the Trustus Apprentice Company. Larry McMullen, technical director for Trustus and stage veteran will take on the roll as the famed Ebenezer Scrooge. Joe Morales, Trustus box office manager and long time member of the NIA Company will portray the ever faithful Bob Cratchit. Other performers include, Joe Laney and EG Heard, members of Armed Chair Productions. Local actor Charlie Duncan, and Apprentice Company members Anne Goodall, Cati Huff, and Jessie Scarborough-Ghent help round out the cast.

Trustus Youth Theatre’s A Christmas Carol is a modern twist on a classic tale. Although it remains in a Victorian setting the script tickles with a slue of new age funny. In connection with other Henderson productions the soundtrack offers up a rock and roll weave on a classical sound.

Trustus Youth Theatre’s A Christmas Carol will open to the public on Friday Dec, 7th at 4 and 7 p.m. and will run on Saturday Dec. 8th at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Ticket prices include Students $5, Adults $7, families of 4 or more $20 and groups of 10 or more $4 each. The shows will be held in The New Trustus Studio Theatre located on Lady St. adjacent to the original Trustus Theatre.

The Trustus Youth Theatre season will include A Christmas Carol as well as, an adaptation of Town Mouse, Country Mouse in March and an original script The Meaning of “I” in April. All shows will take place in The New Trustus Studio Theatre.

A Christmas Carol is the 1st for the Trustus Youth Theatre, and the 1st performance in The New Trustus Studio Theatre.
