Trustus Theatre, in honor of Black History Month, brings to the stage the heartwarming tale of two long-lived American darlings, Sadie and Bessie Delany, in the production Having Our Say opening Feb. 15 at 8 p.m.
103-year-old Sadie and 101-year-old Bessie Delany welcome us into their Mount Vernon home, all the while kneading out their stories of life-long struggle and folding the audience into the warm hearth of their devotion. The bond between the century-old sisters remained impenetrable through the Great Depression and two world wars. The Delany sisters, born and raised as ordinary people who make extraordinary achievements inevitably raising them as true daughters of America.
Having Our Say is directed by and stars three of Columbia’s premiere African American talents: director Jocelyn Sanders is reunited with two cast members from the hit show Crowns, Valdina Hall and Marilyn Matheus. Hall and Matheus are breathing new life into the two 100-something Delany sisters. Their enthusiasm carries the audience through the monumental twentieth century.
Having Our Say runs from Feb. 15 through March 8. Performances are Thursdays at 7:30, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. There will be 3 Sunday matinees including Feb. 17s IPWIC (I Pay What I Can) performance.
Prices are $17.50 on Thursdays, $20 on Fridays and Saturdays and $15 on Sunday. Trustus offers their student rush tickets at half price available 15 minutes prior to the desired show with a valid student id. Reservations are available by phone at 803.254.9732.
Armed Chair Production will offer up another hilarious evening of Loaded Late Night sketch comedy coinciding with this mainstage. The late night will take place on Friday Feb. 22 at 11:15, doors open at 10:45 and tickets are $5.
